It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!

Style Tip: Wear a crop top with a cardi for the winter!

I truly believe it is!  There's a general feeling of goodwill towards each other, and those less fortunate.  There's time with your loved ones, and fun activities to do and events to attend.  It just makes my heart swell with love and happiness!
I can not believe that we're only 4 sleeps away from the big day.  How did it creep up on us so fast?  I find that I enjoy the weeks leading up to Christmas just as much as Christmas Day itself.  Keeping busy with the shopping and wrapping and decorating and baking... hahaha kidding, I don't bake!  But I do enjoy eating the baked goods ;-)
Now that the kids are out for Winter break, and the holiday season is in full swing, I plan on taking a little break from the blog and IG world.  My gift to myself and my family is my undivided time and attention.  I know at times I'm just gonna want to "quickly check IG and Twitter and Snapchat" (and I will at times), but my goal is to make a real effort to disconnect.  In a world where time goes by so super fast, I want to slow things down, and enjoy this time with my family.
And I encourage you to do the same.  Enjoy this season fully, and take the time to spread some joy and happiness, to have some cuddles while watching Christmas movies, to laugh, to eat, and to feel the love!
I sincerely thank all of you who visit the site, and I look forward to coming back to Styleiish in the new year with some new goals and ideas!! Until then, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best through this holiday season.

One week left!!

Love this wrapping paper from Chapters Indigo!
I just can't believe there's only one week left until Christmas!!  Where oh where did the time go?!  All the weeks of shopping and fun activities have flown by, and here we are with the just a week to go.  I have to say, I love this time of year so much, I wish I could somehow slow everything down.
Even the shopping doesn't get me down!  I love shopping for presents for friends and family.  I feel like its an extension of the love that this season's all about.  My gifts have a lot of love and thought behind them, and it's so fun to see if what you picked will be a hit.
Technically I'm all done shopping, but my desire to pick the perfect present is my downfall.  Even after I'm done, I still keep finding things I want to give, and then I end up changing what I originally bought cuz I like the new thing better... it seriously never ends!!  Does anyone else do this?!
Even when a gift is all wrapped, it's still not "safe", I'll still unwrap it and replace it!  I keep finding things I want to add, or change or something that person will like more... it really doesn't end until Christmas Eve, when I just can't shop any more!
Try not to let the craziness of the season get to you.  Remember why you're buying the presents in the first place, and focus on that person, that relationship.  And when you're totally ready to lose it, get a gift card and go home!!
Happy Shopping!!

Printed Pants!

I'm usually not one for printed pants.  I do like them on other people, especially the plaid ones that I've been seeing lately, but I actually don't own a pair of printed pants (time to go shopping!).
But these leggings from Old Navy really spoke to me, because a) the print is somewhat muted, and that's a good way to try something new; and b) because being leggings, I could dress them up or down.  Add to this the fact that they were super inexpensive, and it became a no-brainer to give them a try.
And I'm finding that I'm totally into them.  I paired them here with an oversized turtleneck sweater from H&M, and ankle boots, and its such a fun look!  You could switch the look up and wear a black T or tank, and/or add a long cardi.

The options for printed pants or leggings are endless.  There's a lot of floral and aztez prints for leggings, and plaid or houndstooth pants are everywhere as well.  My choice is to pair them with a solid colour top, but hey, if you're feeling brave, you could even try mixing prints!

Brightening Up!!

Top was only $6 from Old Navy; Scarf from Dynamite (under $15)

I'm not sure if it's due to the weather or the shorter, darker days, but I've been wearing so much black and grey lately.  I wore a lot of black in my younger days, and then discovered colour, and now I felt like I was gravitating towards black again!
Then this fun little top stopped me.  Mustard, Saffron, Yellow... whatever you call it, I LOVE it!  And I love how the top brings out the colour in the scarf as well.  I've said it before, don't be afraid of incorporating colour into your looks.  It's a super easy way to elevate any outfit.  I wore jeans and boots with this combo, and it's definitely one of my favorite looks!

Cool-ly Casual!

Jeans from Old Navy; Jacket from Joe Fresh; Scarf from Aritzia

When I'm headed to work, I generally go for a feminine, pretty look, but for my casual days, I sometimes like going with an "edgier" look.
These skinnies fit perfectly, and the grey colour and ripped knees are just right to complete the look.  Add in my "leather" jacket, ankle boots, and scarf, and I have this cool, casual yet effortless look.
It's casual enough to wear shopping or to run errands (like I did), but cool enough to wear out to dinner or drinks.
If you're trying out an edgy look for the first time, it may be intimidating.  Try it out with little details that speak to you.  A studded purse or a spiky bracelet?  A muscle T with some ripped jeans?  Or when in doubt, a leather jacket and anything black will get you there!

Trends-- Love em or Leave em?

These"girlfriend" jeans from The Gap have the perfect amount of rips for me!

Trends are always changing, some are super short lived, while others stick around in some way or another for many seasons, and then they reincarnate themselves and come back after some years have passed.  They can define a season, or a particular time in your life, and they can also encourage you to try things you normally wouldn't.  I've definitely done that this fall, taken chances and tried new things.  Like pairing stripes with plaid!  I would've never thought to do this, but now I love the look!
And distressed/ripped jeans are another trend I'm liking.  Now ripped jeans are nothing new; they've obviously been around forever.  But every so often they make a "comeback" and are everywhere.  And I kinda like them; there's something about the subtle rips that add a little "bad-ass" quality to the jeans which is right up my alley!
Having said that, I am not into the overly ripped jeans that have been popular this season.  I mean these new styles are not even "ripped" or "distressed"... they are full on "torn"!  And I am so not digging them.
Another trend this season that totally has me on the fence is OTK (over the knee) boots!  When I see pictures of girls wearing them, I love the way they look, but in real life, I just can't see them working for me.  I think I'm just gonna have to admire this one from afar!
What trends are you digging this season?  And which ones are you so over?  I'd love to hear!

No More Faux Pas Fridays!

Although it's been fun talking about my fashion pet peeves (and I'm really hoping someone, somewhere has found it helpful!), it's time to move on.  I'll be starting a new weekly series in the new year, but I haven't narrowed it down yet.  If there's anything you all want me to blog about, please leave me a comment or send me an email, I'd love to hear from you!
It's been such a learning experience over the past months that I've been blogging on Styleiish, and it continues to be.  I'm learning how to balance it all, and also thinking of where I want to go with Styleiish in 2016.  I appreciate all of you who visit the site, and I'd love to hear what you like, and what I could change, or what you'd like to see more of.
Have a fabulous Friday!!

Holiday Shopping Madness!!

These Nike Studio Trainer Print shoes are so light and comfy!!

Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, I actually feel... relieved??  It's a strange feeling, and I'm not even sure why I feel that way.  I mean you know me, I love to shop, but there's something about the frenzy and madness that goes with shopping at this time of year that can be addicting!
I did partake in Black Friday, but in a very organized,  almost un-selfish way!  These shoes and leggings were the only things I bought for myself!  {I would've never thought that my only Black Friday purchases would have been from Nike of all places!!  (Side note:  how cute are these shoes?!)}
But I was able to avoid the madness and stick to the things I needed to buy as Christmas presents (Another side note:  I scored some major deals on toys at Walmart!).
At this time of year, the temptation can be so strong to buy, buy, buy, but being prepared really helps.  I try to be really savvy about it and make lists for what I really need.  And if I end up buying something for myself, I think about what it is, how much it is, and how much wear or use I'll really get out of it, before I go for it.  That way you can avoid that "OMG what did I do" feeling that happens when you go shopping crazy!
At the end of the day, this season is all about giving, and I truly love to give!  It is so nice to give to those less fortunate, and be able to make someone's holiday season a little brighter.  And I love buying gifts, the process of picking out presents for my loved ones, trying to decide what they'll like, and then wrapping them all up nicely... it's such a fun part of the holiday season, that I (almost) don't miss shopping for myself!!
Besides I've got the rest of the year to shop for myself!! ;)
