One of the most exciting things that has happened in the fashion/retail world over the past years is collaborations between high-end designers and mainstream stores. These collabs allow those of us who wouldn't normally own pieces by these designers a chance to do so.
And so many retailers are getting in on the action these days. Starbucks has collaborated with Rodarte and Alice and Olivia over the past years, and I own some very cool travel cups thanks to them!
Kohl's is another store that has really embraced designer collaborations. They started DesigNation, which was launched a few years ago to bring designer items to the masses. (http://www.kohls.com/promos/designation.shtml)
H&M and Target have also done a number of amazing collaborations (Jason Wu, Missoni, Versace, Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler just to name a few) over the years, and they are both soon coming out with new collabs that I'm super excited about!
On Sept 27th, Target is launching the Adam Lippes for Target collaboration (https://corporate.target.com/article/2015/08/plaid-fall-look-book), and the stuff looks SO SO SO cool! I've checked out the preview, and I'm LOVING the coat, the vest, the shoes... pretty much everything! It's reasonably priced and so fun, you must check it out!
In November, H&M is launching a much anticipated collaboration with Balmain!! I've only seen a couple pieces that will be a part of the collection, but I'm looking forward to checking it out, and hopefully getting my hands on a little piece of gorgeousness!
For me and most people, these designers are names you read about and their collections are generally out of reach. By participating in these collaborations, it makes them accessible to us, and makes for a fun shopping experience!
